Okay so since I’ve made a few over-zealous butthurt posts on this topic, I just want to clear up my stance on this.

But why does the Under the Dome have anything to do…
Yeah, it’s the dome premise. If there was ever a chance of Gone getting a movie deal, I’m almost completely sure it doesn’t exist anymore because it would look like a copycat series. Unless maybe Under The Dome doesn’t go over well with audiences.
And usually when movie series are made based on book series, the movies start being made before the books are all released. Besides, MG has been pushing for a movie or tv deal for a while now and it hasn’t gone over. A cast made up entirely of minors isn’t an appealing concept to potential producers, I suppose.
It just annoys me that Steven King’s book was adapted because he’s Stephen King and Michael Grant’s weren’t because children.
I get the frustration, but unless the Gone series had a huge insane following, it’s really hard to top Stephen King. He’s an insanely bestselling author. Honestly, I don’t even like most of his books but I respect the guy a ton for being able to crank out the bestsellers the way he does.
I don’t think it’s just the minors thing. 15 year olds on TV are routinely played by grownups anyway. Besides, the 90s series ”The Tribe” had a similar premise, with all the grownups being killed off by a virus and kids/teenagers left to try and make the best of it.
Heck, if we want to pet peeve, most of my favorite books as a kid/teen have never been adapted. Not Tamora Pierce, not Diana Wynne Jones (that Ghibli movie that butchered it? Doesn’t count), let’s not talk about Ursula LeGuin and the tragedy of Earthsea. The Dinotopia miniseries was garbage.
But good books will survive, and people will keep reading them :) so don’t be too bummed!
