I’m, er, not really ON other places so much anymore :/ LJ is sort of dead, that’s why I came to tumblr in the first place. I’m kinda doing what I always did (some drawing, some writing), but I guess my style just doesn’t attract people? Like, I had a fanart post with about 300 notes, which is more than anything before, but no new followers *shrug*
I’ll probably hang around, if only so I can be like “hey MW is finished” one day. But it’s kinda depressing.if you really want followers and recognition for your work, the best thing to do is to talk to other people on tumblr and form friendships. most popular fandom bloggers like talking to people, and even if your just talking to a small clique of people who aren’t so popular, the personal touch it adds to your blog helps it look more attractive. (and you can queue posts so your blog still puts up content while you’re offline, making your blog look a lot more active then it otherwise would.) I’m also certain I have so many followers because I spend an almost unhealthy amount of time online… :) if you look at blogs like pax-etlux (is that spelled right? shit) who created a blog just to post art and ended up interacting with others in an open way that made blogging 10x better. I, honestly, could care less about follower count, but the people I talk to on here and friendships I’ve made make the blogging worthwhile.
gah now I sound all mushy. sorry.
you’re not mushy, that’s what this kind of thing is for :) I’m glad you’re having a good experience
haha, guess I’m just a dinosaur, then. I just don’t know HOW to talk to people on tumblr. Reblogging feels like shouting into the ether, half the time nobody responds anyway, and if there are a lot of notes, nobody sees it.
I guess it’s not so much that I *want* followers and recognition, I mean, I’ve never been very popular in fandom or very well known. I’m kind of used to having a small corner and that’s okay with me. (fun fact: Mirrorworld nearly got abandoned about 15 chapters in because I got discouraged by the radio silence. At one point, I was basically just writing for my beta).
But because I feel like I don’t know how to talk to anybody on tumblr, I just end up feeling like there’s nobody there, so there’s no point. *goes back to dreamwidth*

*waves* howdy, stranger!
It may be a bit more significant in their world than in ours, but Isayama still chose a pretty low rank for him. Seriously, not even an officer XDDD. I mean, yes there’s the option that Isayama knows nothing about military ranks and just made an embarrassing mistake, but the research so far has been pretty good, so I’m disinclined to believe that.
I think that “captain” would be a mistranslation, because all of my dictionaries translate 兵長 as some variation on corporal. It’s not even a modern rank, actually, it was apparently used in the former Japanese army/navy.
Actually-actually, some list it as being lower than a regular corporal.
I think it’s interesting to think about why he might have such a low rank. Personally, I may stick with the theory that for some reason, he’s being blocked from being promoted, either because of personal preference, or because of conspiracy, or because he doesn’t play nice. I think that rolling with his rank, however low it may be, and seeing where it takes his character is pretty interesting, actually :)
I think the funniest thing about Levi is that he’s this super-awesome-amazing titan killer, and he does all this stuff, and he’s just… a corporal. That’s like really low in the military hierarchy. It’s not even an officer.
Where I live it’s what you get for just being in the army for like 6 months so they promote you ‘cause they have to.
So, either:
1) Levi’s SUPER badass because he’s been in the recon corps for half a year and is already the #1 asskicker
OR
2) He’s a total pain in the ass and they’re like, “you stay there and kill titans, leave the actual soldiering for us serious people”. And maybe he’s okay with that because it leaves him free to just kill titans all day or something.

Every soldier has his last battle.
All it took was one split second of hesitation, one moment of distraction, a delayed reaction because of fatigue – and Levi was falling, his legs cut out from under him.

One of the things that actually impressed me a *lot* about Isayama is how much he’s improved. The first few chapters were really kind of messy, but it’s looking so much better now (while still keeping the sketchiness of the style).
But I can definitely say that the action is translating really well into anime. It’s really cool to see the 3DMG in motion~

Oh, for sure! Your drawing is lovely, and there’s nothing wrong with playing around with the colors when drawing :)
I was just surprised because I saw lots of fanart of Eren with yellow eyes, and I really didn’t remember it from the manga - so I’m glad I understand now XD
In general I think they did a pretty good job with the character designs in the anime. I also really like the thick lines.
I wish they kept Eren’s yellow eye color in the manga.

His yellow eye color wasn’t very obvious in the manga but was…
Hmm, I see what you’re saying.
Though, even in some of the early colored manga images, it struck me as being a grayish-yellowy-muddy sort of pale. I could see the yellow in it, but it was hardly a bright vivid yellow (like say, Edward Elric).
Even if this design was changed, in the anime his eyes are very clearly bright green, so they’re not totally going anime route yet, either. (though I actually quite like the green on him, personally).
So, Amazon wants to get its greedy little fingers in the fanfic business, eh?
I have a lot of thoughts on this. Angry thoughts, to be completely honest. I’ll try to limit my use of capslock, but no promises.
I love the lack of capitalism in the creation of fanworks. It’s extremely important to…
In a sense, I’m not against fic writers making some money. I mean, fan crafters make money. Fanartists do commissions all the time. It’s only fic writers who “aren’t allowed” to get any kind of pay.
But this isn’t even paying fic writers. If somebody commissions a fan-thing, it’s a small, personal deal between the commissioner and the creator. So yeah, it might be nice for fic writers to get a piece of the commission pie, but why does Amazon need to be involved? Why should any corporation make money off of fan work?
I agree with marguerite26’s post so much. I’ve written quite a bit of fic, several hundred K of it, and I was happy doing it, and I’m happy every time someone derives happiness from one of my stories. Fandom is about joy and sharing, overall, and it sucks that all these corporations keep trying to make money out of it. I just hope that fandom will stay strong, and continue to be a warm place open to everybody.
I’m so bad at this, I’m not really sure why I keep doing it. xD
Practice my Japanese, I guess, even though I have little grasp on it and know maybe 20 kanji total and have to constantly use a dictionary.
I know maybe 800 kanji and feel exactly the same.
